Visible gentrification: Aesop Kreuzberg

Aesop Shop, seen after hours, corner Forsterstr. / Reichenbergerstr., Kreuzberg

When Aesop opened last year on Reichenbergerstr.–an area of Kreuzberg already actively mobilised against real estate development and speculators like Aspire Berlin–it received a less than warm welcome. The windows were constantly smashed during the first weeks, and new glass rarely lasted more than a week. Eventually these sliding metal security doors were added, but the façade is perpetually covered in graffiti. Seen here “Aesop and Google mean displacement” and “break-in here” with an arrow to the door.
